Betty’s Interview With British Ceramic Artist Stuart Allen

When we walk into the 2018 RCA graduation exhibition, our attention is immediately caught by swirling, vividly coloured red clays, crafted into unique and unusual forms.

Stuart Allen was studying part-time for an MA in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London. His ceramic works bring out the natural texture of clay and the unique patterns which result from his distinctive treatment of this natural material.

We have been lucky enough to have been able to hold a short interview with Stuart, in which he talks about the process behind the creation of those beautiful ceramic works.  Stuart explains that his ceramic creations represent our lives, in which the soft, inner tangle symbolises our complicated minds and souls, while the polished, smooth outer wall can be seen as our public face which does not reveal the completely different thoughts going on inside us.
